What is it you love most about writing?
I truly love telling stories that captivate the audience and get them to think.  My love for writing enables me to educate and entertain people about the mysterious world of narcotics.

What came first, the idea for your first book or the decision to write a book?
The idea for Gray Ghost came fourteen years prior to me actually thinking I could write it and get it published by a traditional pub.  Took quite awhile to find my niche and feel confident.

Right now, I’m working on the fifth book in my Cameron Scott series, titled First Class.When main character Cameron Scott investigates the early ‘accidental’ demise of several of his law school classmates, he finds that he is next on the list. I have a few ideas rolling around in my head for the next Cameron Scott book, which will be titled "Zero Tolerance."

What is it you love most about writing?
I love losing myself in the world I'm creating. Sometimes my imaginary places become so real to me, I can shiver from frostbite that I'm writing when it's the middle of summer. I love looking up and realizing it's daytime when my story has taken me to someplace at two am.

Why do you enjoy writing in your usual genre?  What is it about your usual genre that appeals to you most as a writer?
The short answer to this question is that I write mysteries because that's the genre I know best. It's my favorite reading. But it goes deeper than that. I really and truly do not know why a person would murder another person. It's such a strict taboo, such an awful, forbidden thing to do. I feel compelled to explore reasons why a person would get the the point where he or she thought that killing another human being was the solution to a problem. I think I'm getting close to understanding this sometimes. At other times, I'm still completely baffled.

Is there anything about you and your writing that makes you unique from other authors?
My age, first of all. I began Betrayal by Serpent at the age of 74, and it was actually my therapy. I’m a counselor and I was experiencing secondary post-traumatic stress, a hazard of the profession. I was having nightmares and realized that my imagination was working overtime in a negative way and decided to put it to work for me and to challenge myself. After two years of part time writing. I decided I really had a book and could do something with it. I published Betrayal last year in November at the age of 76. It’s never too late!

Is there anything about you or your writing that makes you unique from other authors?
A unique aspect of my writing, I would say, is my featuring an anti-hero as the main character of my series of comedy-mysteries. In other words, if Brett Cornell were a real person, I doubt that anyone would want to have anything to do with him, especially since he is a self-proclaimed unscrupulous bastard and even prides himself on being so. Of course, throughout the course of the series, sharp readers will notice various "chinks in his armor" as I hope to have his character gradually evolve to a certain extent.

Do you ever feel yourself becoming quite emotional when writing a particularly intense scene and is there a specific passage in particular where this was the case?
There is a specific passage in Mine to Avenge that affects me this way, though it didn’t at the very beginning when I first wrote it. The emotional response was triggered further on in the process, once I had read and re-read the story so many times through the editing process. I believe that as time passed and I read the story frequently, my characters were becoming real to me. I always get a lump in my throat now when reading this scene towards the end of the story when a particular character is reunited with family he hasn’t seen for many years. At this point in time, I haven’t heard of any readers having such a response to that scene, but I would be very pleased to learn if they had.

Tell us a bit about yourself and your work as an author.
I'm 37-years-old and grew up in central Ohio. In the summer of 1998 I moved to the Tampa Bay region of Florida. In the summer of 2012 I moved to northern California to be with my fiancée—best-selling, critically-acclaimed paranormal author Desirée Lee.

I'm the author of 30+ published short stories and eight novels. My latest book, "Quintana Roo, Yucatan", was published by Umbral Press. It's a little over 105,000-words-long; the longest book I've written to date. "Quintana Roo, Yucatan" received a nomination in the Paranormal Romance Guild's 2012 Reviewers' Choice Awards in the action/adventure category. It took second place. Do you ever feel yourself becoming quite emotional when writing a particularly intense scene and is there a specific passage in particular where this was the case?

Yes. I often get emotional when writing certain scenes. In Captured Lies, the scene where Bailey is standing at the gravesite of her mom while the minister is doing the service, was very emotional for me. Bailey is berating herself for the poor relationship she had with her mother and questions why she didn't do something to fix their relationship before it was too late. Too often we live with regrets. This was more emotional for me as my father passed away while I was writing Captured Lies.

What are you working on now, what projects ideas do you have lined up next?

I am currently writing the second in the Meredith & Hodge series, Ill Conceived.  I am about half way through and enjoying working with the characters again.  When I finished Misplaced Loyalty I was overjoyed and have to confess that I did a little jig in front of the laptop, sad but true.  During the next week however I found was missing the characters having spent so much time with them.  I'm fine now.  I am also editing the first novel I ever completed which had a working title of 'chiclitwhodunitfarce' but when ready will be published as Murder & Moet.  As the working title suggests it is a light hearted murder mystery, and set in my favourite Cornish hotel although I have of course changed the name to avoid tarnishing their reputation.

As he and Gibson begin to discover a series of seemingly disparate clues, they soon realise that everything is far from straightforward. Whilst seeking additional resources, Gibson is unwittingly embroiled in the internal politics of the US military, with the result that she becomes a pawn in a vicious power struggle involving a corrupt senior officer. Her path crosses that of an ex-lover and her relationship with Anderson stretches to breaking point.

As Anderson begins to see Gibson from a totally different perspective, his focus changes, and he pushes himself well beyond the limits of his comfort zone in an attempt to discover the truth.
