Gray Ghost by C. L. Swinney |
While on a fly fishing vacation to Andros Island in the Bahamas, narcotics detectives Dix and Peterson discover their fishing guides were killed when a sudden blast of gunfire fractured their speedboat, Gray Ghost. Local gossip has it that Gray Ghost went to the ocean floor with a hundred million dollars worth of cocaine in the hull. Dix and Peterson are drawn into helping their island friends, and chase down leads in Miami as well as the Bahamas until they identify the diabolical plot of the man known only as The Caller…things get much more interesting then.

Author Quiz interviews C. L. Swinney...
What is it you love most about writing?
I truly love telling stories that captivate the audience and get them to think. My love for writing enables me to educate and entertain people about the mysterious world of narcotics.
What came first, the idea for your first book or the decision to write a book?
The idea for Gray Ghost came fourteen years prior to me actually thinking I could write it and get it published by a traditional pub. Took quite awhile to find my niche and feel confident.
If you could choose someone famous to record your book in audiobook format, who would you choose as the voice and why?
Sean Connery without a doubt. Such a distinguishable voice and a man of great knowledge and charisma. He’d play an excellent lead detective Bill Dix in a movie about Gray Ghost.
Are any of your characters based on yourself and if so to what degree, and do you find it easier or more difficult to write characters based on yourself?
The bad guy in my first novel is known as The Caller. He’s diabolical and manipulative. He considers himself brilliant and enjoys toying with people, including the two detectives in Gray Ghost. The Caller is a lot like me.
Do you have any useful marketing tips for other authors?
DO NOT GIVE your books away. The average author will not sell more than two hundred copies of their book. Time and time again I hear authors complaining that they gave away 50,000 copies of their book, but only sold one or two copies. Write well enough to sell books.
If you worked for a publishing house, what sort of books would you be looking to publish?
I’d look for romance novels. They are the best selling books, and the point of a publisher is to make money. I’d like to see suspense blended with romance, which is what I’m planning to do with the second book in my series. I’m hoping it works!
What are some of your favourite quotes from reviews that you've received?
“This fast paced thriller-mystery by homicide and narcotics investigator, Chris Swinney, hooks the reader on page one (sort of like a bass) and keeps that reader on the line till the very last page.”
“Gray Ghost kept me reading till late in the night to see if Dix can save the day.”
"When two Miami narcotic officers take a fishing trip to the Bahamas, they can't leave the drug world behind...Deftly told by the author, detective and avid fly fisher Chris Swinney, this book will hook any reader of mystery fiction." —Sunny Frazier, author of the Christy Bristol Astrology Mysteries
